Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) is an initiative aiming at promoting open networks for all aspects of the exchange of goods and services over digital or electronic networks. ONDC is to be based on open-sourced methodology, using open specifications and open network protocols independent of any specific platform.

The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) is a platform supported by the Indian Government that allows restaurants to sell food directly to customers. It also offers the delivery of groceries, home decor, cleaning supplies, and other items, similar to services like Swiggy’s Instamart, Zepto, and Blinkit. ONDC is open to all types of businesses, including electronics, fashion, beauty, and more. Initially launched in Bengaluru in September 2022, ONDC is now operational in several cities, and people are utilizing it to find the best deals.

Indian Food Delivery Market Disrupted as ONDC Crosses 10,000 Daily Orders

Zomato and Swiggy have been leading the food delivery market in India with their frequent discounts and offers. However, a new player, ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce), backed by the Indian government, is challenging their dominance. ONDC allows restaurants to sell food directly to consumers without a third-party intermediary. Since its launch in September 2022, ONDC has gained popularity, and netizens are comparing its prices with Zomato and Swiggy. As per reports, ONDC has crossed 10,000 daily orders, and its prices are found to be cheaper than the other two competitors. A price comparison by Mint showed that the ‘Big Tandoori Paneer Burger’ costs ₹359 on Zomato and Swiggy but only ₹270 on ONDC.

ONDC is not a standalone app that can be downloaded from the Play Store. It can be accessed through existing apps like Paytm, PhonePe, and Meesho. The platform has over 29,000 sellers offering over 3.6 million products. To use ONDC, users can search for it in the Paytm app and order food directly from restaurants. It should be noted that not all restaurants are currently selling food through ONDC.
